North Wheddon Farm is an ideal base to access the Exmoor and Devon area with fantastic coastline moorland and woodland just minutes way. The scenery from North Wheddon and the surrounding area is simply stunning. The farm has a natural harmony with a gentle rhythm of bygone times with eggs to collect animals to pat there’s always something to see with plenty of space and time to enjoy a real classic Somerest farmyard. We love to cook and are proud of our reputation (voted no 1 on tripadviser). Food is very much 'River Cottage' style. If we cannot grow it or raise it here on the farm you can be sure it is locally sourced and the very best of quality. From home-smoked bacon to our own Aga baked bread all are available to our guests. The evening dinners are an event in their own right. Farming has taken place here since the mid 1800s our approach to farming is as organic as it can be. We talk in food meters not food miles. Down on the farm we have four rooms for Bed and Breakfast The 4 Poster Room (double) The Cricketers (double or twin) and The Stables (single). Eden Lodge is a suite including a kitchen lounge area and is warm and snug and set in the eaves of the old farmhouse. It easily sleeps up to three guests and is perfect for the smaller family or couples. We also have 2 self catering properties which avalabe for larger groups or or longer lets. Burnells Gardens is a family run farm situated in the beautiful Avill Valley between the historic village of Dunster and the traditional village of Timberscombe. It is a perfect base for your stay on Exmoor with wild moorland and valleys only a short drive away - as is the town of Minehead and it's beaches and the village of Dunster - packed with history and interest. Minehead and Dunster offer numerous attractions from shopping, golf, steam railway etc. and horse-riding and walking will allow you to experience the tranquility of this lovely area at first-hand.The farm itself is river fronted - we can supply a Chiminea for use in the farm's mature gardens or a gas bbq and picnic area on the banks of the river where you may glimpse the resident otters or kingfishers as you dine. You are free to roam the farm and meet Moira the pig, Flora and Marge the Goats or the other animal friends that make up the character of Burnells Gardens! You may even meet the hen who laid the egg you have for your breakfast! Well-behaved dogs are welcome and you can even bring your horse on holiday with you.
Stabling/grazing can easily be arranged for y and multiple dogs are not a problem, with many facilities set up especially for your canine family - treats for them on arrival, a supply of disposal bags, towels and throws for your use, plus a dedicated area for "first-thing in the morning and last-thing at night" doggy toilet breaks. We supply temporary dog i/d discs so there is a local tel. no. for people to use if your dog should accidentally go astray. We also have a dog agility course for the days when you are feeling a little more lively. There are very few rules at Burnells Gardens and our aim is to provide you with a tailor-made break free of restrictions to enhance the quality of your holiday, however short or long this may be. Cathy and Rod welcome you to their lovely 15th century farmhouse down a quiet country lane with beautiful cottage style gardens where you can enjoy a relaxing and peaceful break to escape to the country and rejuvenate. The spacious dining room offers a quiet space where you can enjoy your welcome tea and cake or cream tea before you are shown to your rooms. The house is centrally heated with thick walls - warm in the winter and cool in the summer - and there is also a woodburning stove in the enormous hearth! There are two large double/twin rooms again with spectacular views one with a large ensuite the other with private charming 'Victorian' style bathroom. 'Foxes Den' is comfortably furnished with a double bed and single bed with extra thick mattresses soft chairs tea and coffee making facilities TV antique furniture and its own fireplace! There is room for a travel cot or a small put-up bed in this triple room. The ensuite facilities occupy a former double bedroom with a modern shower and heated towel rail. The view from the window overlooks the thatched barns and stables where the horses live. Both rooms are carpeted and rugged with Persian rugs. The 'Badgers Sett' is another large double with double bed with a thick mattress comfy seating chairs and antique furniture. Again the view overlooks the garden and hills and woods beyond. There is ample space for a put-up bed in this room and an adjacent annexe with two single beds for other family members. These two rooms in the 'Badger's Sett' share the same private bathroom just along the corridor where there is a walk in shower and separate large victorian bath to soak in and relax. Dogs are welcome in both main bedrooms and the countryside offers great off-lead doggy walks. Activities on site include the Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre bird of prey and owl experiences alpaca treks pony rides for children and horse riding for experienced adults over Exmoor.Accessibility:
Our garden and dining room are fully accessible. The stairs are wide with two hand rails. Foxes Den is on one level Badgers Sett has steps into the bathroom.
