Description:
The Prince Leopold is a Victoran Public house built in the heart of the Wylye Valley in 1878. It was named after Queen Victoria's youngest son, who discovered and fell in love with the area after graduating from Oxford in 1875.We acquired the pub in June 2010 and have now completed the refurbishmnet.
The bar area has been panelled as it might have been when originally built and there are pictures and artefacts relating to the period throughout the room. We offer a selection of locally brewed ales at the bar as well as an extensive wine list. Adjacent to the bar is a Victorian style 'snug' complete with leather sofas, log fire, books, newpapers and games. The ideal room to relax in.
The restaurant looks out over the River Wylye and surrounding watermeadows. It will comfortably seat 60 people. Alternatively, guests can chose to eat in one of the smaller pub dining rooms. We offer an a la carte menu which changes daily depending on what is fresh and seasonal, a wide selection of fish dishes, and of course the more traditional pub classics.
The river runs through the garden where guests can relax and simply enjoy the view or feed the ducks and fish!
For younger visitors there is a play park nearby in the village. The bedrooms are also newly refurbished. All are ensuite and have freeview TV, wifi access, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryers.
Warminster lies to the south west of Salisbury Plain, beneath the chalk downland with its abundant flora and fauna, and at the head of one of Britain's best kept secrets - 'The Wylye Valley' with it's attractive villages and historic landscape, so this is an ideal location for walkers with many interesting walks of various lengths in the immediate vacinity. For those who prefer to see the countryside 'seated' - 'Puddys' riding stable less than 2 miles away.
If it's culture you seek then the historic towns of Salisbury (20 mins) and Bath (40 mins) are both nearby.

It is said that The Duke is named after the Duke of Beaufort but he was reluctant to associate his name with a pub insisting instead that it should be called simply The Duke Hotel. He would surely have second thoughts if he could come back and see it today. - bed & breakfast - food served lunch and everning - Sunday lunch - beautiful pub garden - function room - campsite - locally sourced home-cooked food - Arkell's ales Not only is The Duke an elegant building in a marvellous spot - right opposite Hilmarton's delightful old church - but it is a thriving pub which caters for all the demands of modern customers. If they are looking for top quality food then there is sure to be something to tempt them on the extensive menu whether their taste is for the traditional or the exotic. All visitors are strongly encouraged to bring all the family with children warmly welcomed - either indoors or outside where the children's play garden has recently been extended. Though people are prepared to travel long distances to relax at The Duke it still remains a focal point for community life just as you would expect from a traditional village pub. It has been fulfilling that role since it was built in 1843 - ironically the same year that John Arkell first began brewing. In those days the pub brewed its own beer but has been owned by Arkell's since 1923. It is still the base for many of the local sports teams and the function room is put to good use by many members of the community. There is something for everybody at The Duke.Accessibility:
