The hotel is located opposite Criccieth Castle, and can be found by following signs to the castle from the centre of Criccieth.

The town is an unspoilt seaside resort with the 13th century castle dividing two south facing beaches.

The hotel bar offers a friendly atmosphere, with a real fire and sea view. The bar is open to non-residents, so talk of the local sea trout and salmon fishing can often be heard.

Hotel guests have their own private TV lounge and sun lounge which faces the castle. The picture window restaurant offers a good range of 3 course and bar style meals, with an emphasis on traditional home cooking and local ingredients.

Cartref Guest House is located within the ancient town walls of spectacular Caernarfon Castle. A delightful 18th Century town house built by a Scottish Baronet, it retains many of its original features including some very special carved, Welsh slate fireplaces with magnificent cast iron inserts.

  • We would welcome any guest with a disability but must advise that we are a tall town house with no wheelchair access to bedrooms. We can accommodate people with mild mobility problems who can climb stairs or those with sensory disabilities.

The town centre, shops and restaurants are just 2 minutes away and there are numerous museums, galleries and theatres within easy reach. The countryside of Snowdonia is also close by for walking, cycling, sailing, outdoor pursuits, amazing beaches and rock pools and golf set amongst dramatic scenery. Also the guest house is just two minutes walk from the banks of the picturesque Menai Straight, opposite the Isle of Anglesey.

Min Y Gaer is ten bedroomed, family run, guest accommodation which is conveniently situated close to the amenities within the town of Criccieth.

Min Y Gaer faces due South, overlooking the Esplanade, with a commanding view of the scenic Tremadog Bay coastline. Min Y Gaer also has a fine view of Criccieth Castle and, in fact, the phrase "Min Y Gaer" when translated from Welsh means "Near The Fort".

Criccieth is situated in the south east corner of the Llyn Peninsula, on the shores of Cardigan Bay, just outside the Snowdonia National Park. Min Y Gaer is an ideal location to use as a base whilst touring North West Wales, or as a place to just stop and enjoy the pleasant, unspoilt local surroundings.

There are several fine beaches within easy reach and Criccieth, itself, has two, which are both safe for bathing. Many sporting activities such as golf, tennis, squash, bowls, fishing, climbing, boating, riding etc. are available locally. The scenery is magnificent and there are many pleasant walks and places of interest to see. There are also many historic buildings and local attractions to visit.

At Min Y Gaer we have created a friendly, warm and informal atmosphere. We aim to provide good food and comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price which we believe represents excellent value for money.

Accessibility:

The driveway is on a slope greater than 1:20, but has no kerbs or steps. The entrance door is approached up a flight of seven stone steps with handrails and is well lit at night.The ground floor and upper floors are level throughout.There are two upper floors where the bedrooms are located. No lift is available.Each flight of stairs consists of sixteen steps, with a bannister rail on the right hand side. Corridors are well lit. Menus can be provided in large print.

Description:

The George III Hotel is set on the banks of the magnificent Mawddach Estuary, six miles inland of Barmouth. An historic building this 1650 building was originally two dwellings - a ship chandlers serving the flourishing boat building industry, and a pub. Nearby Barmouth is a popular holiday resort situated on the west coast of Wales, at the mouth of the stunning Mawddach estuary. Surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, it is on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. It is an ideal area for mountain walks, and also has a large sandy beach and mile-long promenade. Barmouth also has a harbour used by fishing boats and yachts, and the quayside has a magnificent view across the estuary towards the mountain of Cader Idris. Other attractions in the area include Portmeirion, Coed y Brenin Visitors Centre, Electric Mountain and Corris Railway. The main hotel was built circa 1650 and was once two separate buildings. One half was a pub and the other a ship chandlers’ serving the flourishing boat building industry outside the hotel. The two buildings were matched around 1890 to form what is now the hotel. The Lodge is a Victorian building, built as a waiting room, ticket office and station master’s house for the adjacent station by Cambrian Railways. Great Western took over in the 1920’s followed by British Rail until the line was closed in 1964 by Dr Beeching. The building was acquired by the hotel in 1977 and extended and renovated to form six bedrooms with private bathrooms. PLEASE NOTE: Check In is from 15:00 & Check out is by 11:00. We are a no smoking accommodation in the main buiding, however smoking is permitted in the lodge. Pets can be accommodated in the lodge only by prior arrangement.

THE COACH HOUSE:

Beautiful Grade II listed Holiday Cottage apartment surrounded by 3 acres of stunning gardens in the Vale of Ffestiniog with a pub close by. Sleeps 3.

'The Coach House' was the origninal stables and coach house of the former Rectory of Ffestiniog which is set in a peaceful and tranquil location in the Vale of Ffestiniog in the heart of Snowdonia National Park. The Rectory was built in 1826 and until 1891 four different Rectors lived there. The property passed to the Oakeley family of Plas Tan y Bwlch and owners of Slate Mines in Blaenau Ffestiniog in 1892 and was eventually sold into private ownership in 1962 when the estate was sold due to extensive death duties. The apartment provides a superb base for climbing Snowdon and visiting the many sights and attractions that Snowdonia has to offer.

BWTHYN Y GILFACH/GILFACH:

Two character Grade II listed Holiday Cottages with original wooden beams & log burners for those cosy nights in! Sleep 3 & 6 people.

Built as a farm around the 1750's. The original farm consisted of 1,000 acres and today 50 acres still surround the property. Gilfach was at one time a wood mill. Timber was cut using a water-wheel powered saw and was home to a local Quarry Manager. Cwm Pennant is renowned for its peace and tranquillity and 'Gilfach' & Bwthyn y Gilfach' offer an opportunity to enjoy this beautiful location. The cottages provide a superb base for climbing Snowdon, walking and cycling, bird watching and/or just a quiet place to escape the pace of everyday life. Many sights and attractions of Snowdonia are easily reached within a few miles.
