It is the ideal place for a relaxing holiday; as a base to explore the beautiful Borders countryside or the cultural attractions in Edinburgh.

Perfect for local fishing, cycling and walking, Yew Trees Cottage is also within easy driving distance of world heritage beaches, nature reserves, fishing villages and charming market towns.

For the children there is plenty of space to ride bicycles, kick footballs and run about. There is a fantastic hollow yew tree (the cottage is named after it) where a den has been built, as well as a burn (a scottish word for a stream) where pooh sticks can be played and dams built - remember to bring wellies to do that.

The Allanton Inn is a perfect bolt hole and provides an excellent base for exploring the many fascinating places of interest throughout the Scottish Borders and Northumberland or taking the opportunity to indulge in the wealth of rural activities the area has offer. A destination all year round! Allanton is located ten miles inland from Berwick-upon-tweed, ten miles from Coldstream and six miles from Duns. The English border is only five miles away.

Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh is an hour drive north from Allanton and forty minutes on the train from Berwick. Edinburgh is world renowned tourist destination, particularly well known for is festivals especially the Fringe and international festival in the summer. Newcastle is slightly more than an hour drive and fifty minutes on the train from Berwick. Allanton village itself has a children's play park and enjoyable walks to the river and surrounding countryside. The village of Chirnside is one mile away with all local amenities such as bank, post office, doctors and shops.

There are several well established walking routes in the area, Southern Upland Way, St Cuthberts Way, St Abb's Head as well excellent walking in the Cheviots, Lammermuirs and on the Northumbrian and Berwickshire Coastal Paths. The Allanton Inn is in a central position of the Borders which boasts a variety of golf courses. The parkland courses at Coldstream (The Hirsel) and at Duns are a short drive away. Eyemouth Golf Course overlooks the North Sea and is 15 minutes drive. At Kelso there is the course on the Duke of Roxburgh Estate. The course at Goswick, South of Berwick is a magnificent links course used as a qualifying course for the British open.
